In her book 'Too Much and Not the Mood', Durga Chew Bose posits that 'Smallness can make you feel extra porous. Extra ambitious…as if intimating to the world: Okay. Where to?' One of the first photos I captured after I arrived in Lecce was of a wildly geometric and ornate Baroque doorway carved from the city’s signature limestone. The building itself was of no particular significance today, yet artisans had once taken the time and attention to make it beautiful. The rhythm and contrast of the blocked columns that framed the curved details of the doorway excited and opened me up to the mystery of what else I might (and would) encounter while I explored the city.
