Water is an important idea in my work. Initially, I was seduced by the beauty of the ocean or a river, and I would drive up north from my home to the Mendocino coast to draw what I saw along the edge where the land meets the water. I would draw as the fog settled over the entire place like a blanket. My experience of fog exists in all the greys I use in my paintings. There is something about this vapory elusive version of water that softens the world into something more appealing to me.
