I regularly pursue an almost uncanny stillness in my work. The intent is to stretch these moments that I paint, almost like a bated breath, to allow for an immersion that I find is often difficult to achieve when an obvious “action” occupies the visual spotlight. The totality of the canvas is viewed equally to me, and that consideration begets space for viewers to bring their own motions into the image.
