With heightened threats to people, places, and things both near and far, grounding my practice in hands, heart, attention, and care restores my nervous system and connects me to a network of caring for our collective nervous system writ large. Nurturing my own physical injuries and navigating profound family challenges have animated my continuing exploration of weaving and dyeing. Exploring weave structures, such as isolating the warp and adding it as a layer to dyed landscapes, gave me another way to articulate and coax dialogue between the "figure and ground". Always curious about communication between the land and body, my devotion comes into form in irregular and improvisational woven gestures complicated and complemented by dyed grounds. Aiming for 2D and 3D forms that evoke notions of hope and resistance, rest and care. Moving back and forth between these techniques and media, deep rest and experiments with an emerging social practice, I continue to find spaces of imagination and role-play that both foment and craft responses that I hold close and share. Joining me in this wild endeavor is the vast wisdom of many teachers, peers, and creatures, informing not just the creative work but further grounding me in wider truths of our natural world and reminding me of the power of our interconnectedness. Deep gratitude to Joanna Macy, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Soren Dawson, and Travis Meinolf of the Meinolf Weaving School for their generosity and mentorship.
