A lantern sheds light on what’s around us at night when things are less visible. But brightening our own space can sometimes darken conditions for others. A moth’s attraction to light, or phototaxis, is an instinct to use the moon for navigation that’s often disrupted by artificial light. The trope of moths flocking to the glow is a classic metaphor for needs or desires so great, one doesn’t see the danger in getting too close, or in being thrown off course.
About the Artist
Langdon Graves creates drawings and installations that are steeped in mysticism, domesticity, and a surrealist examination of the intersection of the tangible and the unknown.
