Day's Eye Langdon Graves

$1,000

These sculptures are companion works to Langdon's oracle deck, Home Circle, which draws from the ghost stories her grandmother shared with her as a child. Echoing the cards’ imagery, Langdon enshrines the ethereal narratives in physical form and creates a harmonious dialogue that explores the interchange between memory, materiality, and meaning.

Old English for “day’s eye.” Because these flowers close at night and open again at dawn, they are symbols of new beginnings, generations, births and departures. They also appear here with some dark humor, as one pushes up daisies from the ground where they're buried when dead and gone. Upright: Reaching upwards towards the sun, daisies bring optimism and growth. Inverse: Underground, the hopeful flowers root deep into the earth to seek nutrients from the darkness. Meaning is not often found at the surface.
