In my youth, I loved and played the game of baseball. I was a left-handed pitcher or a 'southpaws and I dreamed of pitching in the Major Leagues. I find a lot of my baseball card source material on the web in addition to what I have in the studio. I then re-interpret the imagery, first by hand-drawing a grid onto wood panel and then abstracting from the original source, by reducing and reassigning color codes to each component square.

Inspired by knitting patterns, Robert Otto Epstein is an artist who employs a grid-based process to map out his paintings, drawings and sculptures.
