Loosely inspired by the collaborative surrealist drawing game, "Exquisite Corpse", where multiple participants contribute to a single composition in alternating turns (often without seeing the full work until it's complete), the "Exquisite Plant Collage" series is grown from the same approach. Fantastical flora emerge from this generative process, morphing and mutating into novel configurations that underscore the exploratory and experimental nature of CHIAOZZA's practice. Read more

We usually work on multiple pieces at the same time. We lay out as many sheets of paper as will fit comfortably on the largest table we have in our studio. For the smaller works, we are often building up to 20 or 30 images at the same time. This helps make the process feel freer, as we have more room to test different ideas in different ways.
