These works are inspired by the work of Merlin Sheldrake and his book Entangled Life as well as my ongoing dialogue with the natural world. Sheldrake shares the idea that living beings are not "things" but rather processes, and within this generous framing, I feel quite literally grounded. For it is in learning how infinitely connected life is to life that reminded me I am not a "thing", you are not a "thing" nor is the forest a "thing", but rather we are evolving, responding, complex and in relationship. These are words of liberation. In developing these pieces, there was a vulnerability in allowing so much complexity to show. Pushing these compositions to hold more shapes and more nuance was a space of not only exploration but emergent freedom. As the processing of the stress and isolation of pandemic life has brought these vulnerabilities close, I feel a resting safety in belonging to something familiar, something infinite.
