In Millee’s “Air/Plains” series, the title refers both to the content of the image, air and plains, and to the object into which the photograph has been folded - an airplane. The resulting image holds the illusionistic space of the landscape while also serving as photographic documentation of dimensionality.

In 2010, I attended an artist residency in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was the first time I spent significant time in the American West and I found myself thoroughly seduced by the landscape. Ever since then, I attempt to bridge this seduction with a more informed response to the iconography of western landscape in my work.

Millee Tibbs is a landscape photographer who manipulates her images to raise questions about photography's historic associations with truth and landscape photography's tradition of the sublime.
