Picasso said 'Creativity is about making mistakes, art is knowing which ones to keep,' so in these paintings I really wanted to control the mistakes and accidents that give a painting personality and movement. The spaces in between color strips, the colors which are peeking out at you from a previous layer, even the swipes of brushwork are all playing a role in these works. 'Beach Days' and 'Wine and Roses' are two paintings I love because the colors are competing so adamantly for the viewers attention; they really create a sense of sculptural dimension with certain colors coming forward and certain colors falling back.
