Vermillion Quill is the first painting of mine to incorporate the use of cardboard corrugations in the process. When demarcating the surface with wax pastels, I placed a piece of cardboard beneath my canvas allowing its corrugations to run perpendicular to my marks. This contrast of linework is later emphasized through the process of dissolution; bleeding colors run through these ‘channels’ and ‘ridges’ captured in relief and are imprinted in the final image.
