These works were all started or conceptualized during my residency at MacArthur Place in Sonoma this summer. The time away truly felt like an awakening of the senses, the intoxicating aromas of lavender, honeysuckle and eucalyptus, the vibrant colors of the native flora and fauna, the fluctuation of temperatures and light as the sun traversed the sky each day. I felt seduced and invigorated, working intimately with textiles to create a new palette of natural dyes, many of which reflect the colors I was absorbing from the local environment. The works explore the idea of connectivity, to the land, to each other, our past and future. The shapes, like metaphors for these relationships, come together, stack, build, reflect and find balance with each other.
About the Artist
