In these works, images are first sketched with chalk pencil on a bolt of black fabric and then cut by hand with an Xacto blade, creating a line drawing with the fabric. This fabric drawing is then top-stitched onto layers of raw canvas with cotton batting sandwiched in between. The quilting process results in a topography on the surface of the pieces, giving body and texture to the drawing.

Inspired by the decorative arts, American folk art, and the anonymous histories of female textile artists, Stacey Beach's work explores concepts of beauty and anti-beauty, high and low, form and void, the domestic, and the feminine.
