'Daughters', 'Sisters', and 'Mothers' are about protection and vulnerability, and ultimately about love - for myself, for my daughter, for my sister, and my mother. In a broad context, it is also about whether one is free - or not - to express a mothering love on one's own terms. This alludes to reproductive rights that have been taken away, to gender roles that are limiting, and to a narrow definition of mothering as a feminine entity. The open and closed structure of the forms signals expansive yet tenuous possibilities, while the directional brushstrokes and tonal highlights reflect the active nature of mothering love.
