This painting was a huge evolution for me. Typically I paint on paper with gouache, or on canvas with acrylic. But I've been trying to loosen my style up a bit as I evolve and grow. Along the way I've been researching new tools that force me to be less precise as I paint. 'Array' was the first painting I did with oil stick and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. The resulting lines are still clean, but have a touch of roughness to them. I ended up layering a lot of paint in the black, so it dried with a slightly rough and visceral texture.

Dan Covert is an artist working across a range of media, from metal sculptures to low-relief wall-works, to investigate the potential for form to create its own graphic language and symbolic systems.
