Place and my location within it have always led to points of discovery within my work. My recent work continues to explore my experiences in the world through color, line and shape. Recently I have spent time in the Arizona high desert on the border of Mexico at an artist residency and in Northern California where I live. My new pieces are attentive to these landscapes, whether I am observing a road turn into a river during a monsoon in Arizona, or what water looks like at the edge of the shore at dusk. I look for an interesting kind of beauty in these moments. Then, I layer them upon one another, taking fragments of color from here, and bits of line from there, until the shapes tell a new story that becomes a painting.
