What's the recipe? Observation on both micro and macro scale and simple, steady, trusted relationships. With a limited palette, organically occurring shapes and subtle geometries dictated by the size of the cloth, diameter of the dye vat and my own wingspan. These dip dyed textural works require surrender and deep care to emerge. The calm that comes from repetitious physical studio practice yields work imbued with sublime permission to be themselves. At times incongruent, harmonious and always in relationship, pairs emerge to further the storytelling that evolves from observation. The titles of these works are lines from an ongoing cumulative poetry writing practice rooted in observation. With an hour commute between home and studio, I travel each day on rural roads through several ecosystems: pasture to oak stands, ocean influenced mountains and meadows, reservoirs and redwoods. Flora and fauna forever muses that bring me to a quiet space of delight and meaning.
