This new body of work is a shift in perspective for me, and aims to organize and create meaning out of incoming sensations and stimuli. Subconsciously, I am taking in a palette of textures and patterns through the urban landscape in which I live, often which consists of industrial textiles. Like an optical illusion, where our brain makes sense of shapes and symbols putting them together and formulating that which isnâÂÂt there to that which is believable, these works fill in the blanks from memory and create layered and sometimes seemingly blurred or moving textiles. The process and materials have a duality that speaks to both permanence and transience. Branding the paper makes the image more permanent, while the repetitive layers of ink feel ephemeral and shift as you change perspective.
About the Artist
Katrine Hildebrandt-Hussey's work harnesses the volatility of fire to create geometric patterns which she burns into paper.
