The "Opaline Series" integrates the inherent textures of Mino washi cotton into the visual composition, allowing the fabric to shape the work as much as the imagery itself. With reverse printing, wide seams, and whimsical paper fringes, the pieces encourage a closer look. The series emerged from a three-year collaboration with Kondo Weaving Mill, a textile manufacturing company specializing in natural fibers, located in Aichi, Japan. Mino washi cotton is a unique textile, woven from traditional Japanese paper (washi) and cotton. My goal is to enhance, not overshadow, this fabric through my images. I want viewers to notice its nuanced textures, whimsical washi fringes, and translucency. This natural textile exudes quiet strength and sensitivity, and I aim for my images to reflect that balance.
