These works are all about fluidity, it's a completely different approach than the previous work, which were controlled bands of color. The paintings are done by pouring diluted acrylic and enamel paint on canvases and then tilting and moving the panel to create a new dimension of movement with each pour. These works require control and freedom simultaneously and that is what painting is all about. Color field painting from artists like Rothko and Morris Louis was a big influence here, with deliberate mediations on the exact tones to use but making sure they dance across the canvases in thin veils of pigment.

John Platt is an abstract painter with a focus on color relationships through minimal paintings featuring vertical bands of pigment.
