$2,250
This series is inspired by Laura's Uprise Art x MacArthur Place residency and reflects on the gift of time to soften and slow - to pause, take note, to celebrate - and to be present. 'Daughters', 'Sisters', and 'Mothers' are about protection and vulnerability, and ultimately about love - for myself, for my daughter, for my sister, and my mother. In a broad context, it is also about whether one is free - or not - to express a mothering love on one's own terms. This alludes to reproductive rights that have been taken away, to gender roles that are limiting, and to a narrow definition of mothering as a feminine entity. The open and closed structure of the forms signals expansive yet tenuous possibilities, while the directional brushstrokes and tonal highlights reflect the active nature of mothering love.
About the Artist
