In 2015, I sought out a landscape I had read about as a child, in a book called "Northern Lights" by Philip Pullman. It remained in the back of my mind as a fantasy destination for many years, until adulthood, when I discovered that it was actually a real place. It was called Svalbard. I set out on an expedition to this northernmost region of the world on a journey that started in search of beauty, silence and isolation. While there, I discovered much more than just a visually arresting natural environment. There was an obvious fragility to the North that awakened an inner desire to protect it. The Arctic has been at the forefront of the climate change movement because this region warms at least twice the rate of the rest of the planet. This work reveals the Arctic's rare aesthetic in an effort to raise awareness, not only of its existence, but also of the prevailing impact of a changing climate.
