My fragmented floral paintings explore the dichotomy of growth and breakdown. I strive to create paintings that feel like bursting fields of wildflowers, but look like broken fragments. In order to better understand this feeling of growth and abundance, I spend time in nature; inspired by the plants outside of my studio, the gardens flourishing in my neighborhood, and unexpected expanses of flowers growing in the wild. In order to better understand how objects break down, I turn to the sea, collecting and observing objects that have been chipped by the force of waves, softened by sand—all shaped directly as a result of their environment. Finding a way to effectively combine these two equally inspiring yet fully opposing forces is my motivation.
