After discovering my father/s compact leather bound notepad, filled with a list of songs both hand written and typed with a notation of key, I wanted to consider and think about the verses he loved. Mulling over the songs he performed during the 1950's-1960's, and choosing to translate the lyrics into larger format pieces, I was reminded of player piano paper rolls and their tiny perforations delivering mechanized notes. In the series, "From My Father's Music Notes", I've represented the lyrics with a hand rendered circle seeing the compositional structure of a song appear, its musicality, color tone and rhythmic patterning, reflecting a visualization of the song.
