I often think in fragments when it comes to making a painting. It's a way to not get too wrapped up in the end result. When things are broken down into parts, connections and throughlines bubble up to the surface with little intervention. I feel a sense of clarity and focus when thinking about a specific interaction, or the little moments that make a complete picture.
