Dead Bird - Birds have historically (and inhumanely) been used to test questionable environmental conditions, as with coal mine canaries. They have also been employed as messengers of news, contributing to their symbolic identification as harbingers of things to come. The birds in my grandmother's yard made her ill at ease for their erratic behavior and ability to alight anywhere. This card does not represent literal death but signals a change in one's emotional environment. Upright: Embrace a change that's already occurring and trust your instincts to regain your footing. Inverse: Be alert to shifts in your surroundings and take note as messages present themselves.
