The idea of a keepsake really hits differently now that I have a child, and I wanted these pieces to reflect, if anything, the happiness and joy I have for the life around us, and that I hope he can find. So often we think of keepsakes as what to pass on as memories, but they can also turn into clutter and nonsense. These pieces are energetic, full of texture, influenced always by a bit of nature, and lit up, hence the series name, "Daylight". There is so much beauty out there if you just look hard enough for it. I also like the idea of art as a keepsake, and not only art, but a painting that I make and poured my memories into. To be honest, all my paintings are a version of a memory or a visual diary of a moment in time. A place, or a feeling that I then paint later and abstract with texture and colors. What I love most about the idea of sharing these keepsakes is that they find their way to someone I don't know, but someone who sees a moment in the painting that feels special or moves them the way that moment moved me, and they can hold onto it in their home and have it in their life instead.
