I had a very strong desire to use warm yellows and pink tones in these works to evoke feelings of compassion and love, energy and harmony. After a dark and dismal year, I was left feeling drained and hollow - these works aim to restore that lost energy and reignite motivating action and growth. My friend, Monique Crabb, who is a natural dyer and quiltmaker, helped me to achieve these colors using madder root (pink tones) and weld (yellow tones). The process occurred over the course of several days while camping out on our property in the Catskills. We simmered the fabric over a campfire, using sticks to stir, and the sun to dry. The transformation of the natural dye matter to such vibrant tones relates to alchemy, while the compositions represent different forms of movement as energetic vibrations and frequencies; joining, weaving, pivoting, rotating and shifting together.
