This painting is one of a pair. They were painted at the same time of two best friends having drinks at a bar in Washington DC. I had recently seen a Felix Vallatton show that made quite an impression on me - the simplification of forms and daring color really opened my eyes to not a lack of detail, but to what details are important. My favorite part of the painting is the cocktail glass made of a few scraps of collaged paper.
