Anna is my sister and has been a long-standing character in my photographs. A week or so before this was taken in 2005, she had a friend give her a stick-and-poke tattoo, which is the exclamation point in the picture. It was a picture that I forgot about until a few months later, when I was flipping through contact sheets in the darkroom. Even then, it wasn't until I printed it bigger that I realized the exchange that is happening between her and me. It is lighthearted and humorous, while also a little complex and tense and, I believe, illustrates our relationship pretty accurately.
