I begin my paintings with a grid, and then proceed to grow the compositions through it. The grid is important to me as a way to think of the vertical and horizontal movements of the painting. I then work with thin, washy acrylic in order to build up the surface using multiple translucent layers.
About the Artist
Working with translucent layers of color, Roberta Gentry builds paintings that hover between blueprint and organism, constructing delicate near-symmetries that act as reverent meditations on the tension between chaos and order.
